Tla’amin Nation is reacquiring responsibility for Tree Farm Licence 39 Block 1 — a large forest tenure almost entirely within our traditional territory.
For over a century, decisions about these forests were made without Tla’amin involvement. This reacquisition brings responsibility for these lands back to the people who belong to them. It allows the forest to be managed according to Tla’amin teachings (taʔow), long-term care, and community benefit.
Local stewardship also means local stability. When decisions are made here, jobs stay here, and economic benefits circulate throughout the entire qathet region.
This is a major investment in our future. It will require patience and discipline, but it moves us toward a self-determined economy grounded in stewardship, not short-term extraction.
